Hello April

I’m still not certain what happened to March, but I think it went something like this:

  • I went to L.A.
  • Saw a live UFC event
  • Had my Rituxan
  • Became more medically interesting
  • Celebrated Texas turning 35
  • Knit a bit on a sweater

I want to add more length, but I’m kind of tired of it.  However, I think I have a Julia, a pair of socks, and may have bought Romi’s 2015 Mystery Shawl. (I’m blaming Margene for this one) At least I know I’ll like it, since I love almost all of her designs.

Now I just have to pick my two colors. It is going to be Beaverslide, but I haven’t been able to narrow it down further than this:

Although, I am leaning towards the green and white or the purple and white.  What are you doing this weekend?

Happy Easter y’all!

Finally Finished February

Did you know that people still blog? I cruised through feedly today and realized all y’all are busy. All I’ve gotten done I the past few weeks is this:

(null)

Project: Last Chance Sweater aka February Lady (Ravelry)
Started: March 10, 2012
Finished: Today

Yes, it took almost three years to finish. I’m o.k. with that. I finally finished it and it will be good for layering. Now I really want to cast on for another sweater. Maybe it is Iceageddon 2.0? Or just that I’m really happy to have a sweater I made and didn’t hate. She’s taking a bath and I’ll have to figure out where to block her.

What are you doing today?

She has broad shoulders

So I’ll let her take the blame.

I finished out my Manos trilogy with mitts and a scarf. I knit Texas a hat for his big head. Then, someone sent me yarn to make the coffee hat.

IMG_0389.JPG

I’m thinking brown mitts with a blue cup at the wrist to match the hat. I may have a thing about matching my accessories. In the meantime, I’m cruising for a pattern that isn’t a mystery and still avoiding the sweater I said was going to finish.

Happy Tuesday y’all!

There have been a lot of little things

IMG_0529.JPG

Some Christmas knitting, Jiu Bitsy ™ promotion day, and hello!?! A record player!

My first three records make me seem a little schizo. Fleetwood Mac, Violent Femmes, and Neil Diamond. No, you really don’t want to see my mp3 library. It gets worse.

Luckily, we have Half Price Books and I can get albums for only $4. I’m being picky, because you know I can go all crazy hoarder in 2.5 seconds.

I’m also giving two huge boxes of yarn to a 13 year old. Bad color choices, bad yarn choices, left over Purling Dervish stuff, and OMG! WTF was I thinking yarn. I was going to ask if she liked cross stitch and maybe clear out some of that.

I’m making room for fitness stuff. Our bikes, the weight bench, the stack of mats Santa brought. They’re kind of taking over the second bedroom. I don’t know either.

Happy Monday!

A Cat in a Hat

Not such a great picture, but the Maggie does not tolerate any interruptions to her sleep.

IMG_0483.JPG

Sadly, the hat would have only fit Maggie. After all of the increases, I realized that it wasn’t going to work. On the other hand, I like doing color work, so I’ll start it again soon. I also think that I want to switch the colors and have a brown background.

Today, I’m casting on for something else and watching Gone With The Wind. We still don’t know if Texas is working tomorrow, so we’ve made no plans. Well, except 8 a.m. jiu bitsy. Yes, really. I’m thinking under caffeinated rolling will be cathartic.

Or I’ll need bail.

What are your plans for tomorrow?

Happy Wednesday y’all!

The cold cometh

IMG_0464.JPG

Since it’s been so cold, I’ve been diligently working on my sock yarn afghan. It’s been nice to sit underneath it as it grows. However, it is also a little boring.

I may have started another pair of socks. Yeah, yeah. I know I have three other pairs started. But they’re cotton! I needed a wool pair.

And someone to finish my WIP’s.

Whatever. It will give Texas something to figure out when I’m dead.

Happy Thursday y’all!

5000 Yards of Wine

We’re counting the days until my next infusion. I’m so ready for the side effects because at least I can estimate how long they’re going to last. With the heat and the regrowing of B-cells, I’ve been pretty much stuck in the house since Tuesday. I may be a little itchy/ annoyed/ bored/ exasperated/ crabby.. you name it, I got it.

On the bright side, there are 5000 yards of yarn and a crochet hook.

And a lot of this:

IMAG1322

So yeah, I kind of like Moscato wines. I had 3 bottles at home and nothing better to do. I bought a fourth bottle so I could really tie one on even out the regular and sparkling. I had to be fair like that. *ahem*

Salt of the Earth, Flore de Moscato 2013 This was new to me. It was very sweet and heavy. It had a honey like flavor. I went all red neck on the second (and third) glass and added ice to thin it out a little. It paired well with my Green Tea Smoked Duck.

Beviamo Moscato d’Asti 2010 In contrast, this was bubbly, light, and very floral. I thought of lavender when I first tasted it. I’ve had this one before, but I never noticed the floral bit. Of course, I’ve never had two bottles of wine in one night before either. With this one, on the third glass, I went all so-phis-ti-cated and added orange juice. It went well with the pork fried rice.

Los Pinos Moscato 2012: I love wines from this vineyard and they are from an East Texas winery.  (My favorites are All My X’s and Sweet Rodeo Red) There is no traditional Moscato sweetness with this one. It actually has a little burn going down and a spicy aftertaste.  The smell going in, the dryness, and the taste remaining on your palate remind me more of a Chardonnay. I had high expectations for this one. I have no pairing, but I bet it would be great for cooking.

Villa Alena Moscato d’Asti 2013 Sweet and a little spicy. There wasn’t as much bubbly as the   , but it worked. This was my favorite of the weekend. I could drink two of these at a time.

Ummm. Ran out of things to say about wine. Four bottles in two days. Considering I haven’t had a drink since patient day last year, I think I did good.  (Yeah, I keep forgetting about the annual Lemon Drop Martini thing.)

So, Happy Sunday?

p.s. When did bottles of wine start only giving out three glasses per bottle?

p.p.s. No, I didn’t share with Texas.

p.p.p.s. No one got drunk in the making of this blog post. Not even a little buzz. I tried. I have no idea either.

BJJ and a little knitting

As some of you know, I am in San Antonio attending a Women’s BJJ Camp. Fabiana Borges, Ana Laura Cordeiro, and Gracie Barra San Antonio are hosting the event.

Last night was the first seminar led by Shama Ko, a phenom purple belt. She runs Girls in Gis and has a photography business.

Besides the insane warm up, she was teaching a move on avoiding side control and then getting a submission.

For those of you not in the know, side control is just what it sounds like. You are on your back and the other person is smashed into your chest and face from the side. Seriously, smashed. Yes, it usually as uncomfortable as that picture makes it look. It is my least favorite position to be in. I hate it even more than being mounted. I usually see it coming and just wait for the smash. No more! Well, hopefully no more.

It was awesome meeting all of these strong, funny, confident, knowledgeable, amazing women. It was awesome seeing how different schools teach and learning new ways to do things. It was awesome rolling with only girls outside of a competition setting. It was just awesome.

Day one lessons learned:

Don’t forget the Aminolast. Or I won’t last.
Don’t be ashamed of my limitations.
    Don’t forget the cooling vest.
Remind myself that I am new and that one day, I’ll understand what the heck is going on.
Progress, not perfection. (aka – it’s the process)

A woman I was practicing with was talking about her 3 broken ribs and broken finger and she made the analogy “it’s not like we’re knitting here”. How appropriate. Because I am knitting here.

20140510-102234.jpg

These were started March 2012. Yes, over two years ago. Shut up. I finished the first one sometime ago and I thought it might be time to finish them. I think that I forgot I liked knitting. So far, the morning has been beautiful for sitting by the pool and a little jaunt on the treadmill. (I hope that doesn’t come back to bite me this afternoon)

I’m thinking of going for a swim before class. That is, if my bathing suit isn’t too big. There is a hot tub there too that has my name on it for this evening.

Happy Saturday y’all! What are you doing today!

p.s. I promise this is still going to be a knitting blog. I know it was a farm blog for a while and now it seems like BJJ all the time, but all things go in cycles.
