Random Tuesday Ramblings

I have finally caught up on my feed reader thing today. It may have involved skimming and deleting, but I’m at a zero count, so it works for me.

I have no idea what to do with the living room at the apartment. My furniture will not fit ( I’m going to torch the love seat anyway) and I’m really not finding anything that suits my fancy.

There are surprisingly little “apartment sounds”, but I’m still finding it hard to sleep well. I may have to purchase a topper for the mattress. It has a pillow top, but it is still quite firm. It suits Texas, but not me.

I’m spending the night again at the apartment, but I really do have to go back to the farm and pack up more schtuff.  You’d be amazed at the amount of crap I’m throwing out. If I haven’t touched it in the two years we’ve been at the farm, it’s out of here.

Except for the yarn. Because, well, that would just be silly.  I did contemplate a de-stash sale. For about a minute. I think there will be far more opportunities for meeting people and hanging out with the knitting. Being challenged by others instead of just letting things languish. I’ve already been invited to a weekly spin thing at a friend of a friend’s house.

I think moving may be good for the soul. Not the crazy making of actually having to pack and move, but the decluttering is rather freeing.  Looking at that odd Hawaiian shirt salt and pepper shaker set and wondering if it is really going to follow me again. (It is not) Picking up the inkle loom and deciding that, yes, it is something I want to work on since I’ll have more time.

Of course, it doesn’t help that patient day made me all moody and introspective on top of the moving crazy.  I don’t know if the Rituxan will work or if I’ll wake up blind or paralyzed (or hell, hit by a car crossing the street) and damn it! There are things I want to do and enjoy and see and discover while I still can. Sometimes I forget and get bogged down in the detritus of every day life.

Happy Tuesday y’all! L’Chaim!

Thoughts from an airplane

Mmmm. Warm, salty nuts. I think I’ll have to start warming mine at home. I think they taste better.

I was wondering before flight how many free drinks were enough? I didn’t even have to wonder, those bitches kept my wine glass full. The.whole.way.

I think my seat mate is some type of MMA dude. He smells good too. Seriously good.

How about some more swag? Those Guthy Jackson people are awesome. Info on how to win and how to donate is a couple posts below.

Yes, Christine Ha stopped by to speak to us. You do know she has NMO and that caused her blindness, right?

Just wanted to throw this out there before I hop on the plane and pass out.

Happy Thursday y’all

I’m out of here.

I’m getting ready to leave for patient day. I have mixed feelings this year as so many have passed away since the last one. It’s hard to see how many people are missing from our little band of misfits and yet it is good to see others dealing with NMO.

Texas is holding down what is left of the farm. Which is still makes me sad. We found out Moo and 3 of his girls went to a really nice family. Abby wasn’t sold yet, and she was the sweetest of the goats. The lady we sold everyone to is keeping the geese for breeding stock. So, with ours, she now has over 80 geese. O.o Her neighbors are going to HATE her! I do miss all of the sounds in the morning. And I’m going to miss what would have been our first round of baby goats.

Don’t forget that there is still time to donate to The Guthy Jackson Charitable Foundation and win some yarn. The details are in posts below this one.

Happy Tuesday y’all!

Where did that pile of cow pookie come from?

Hi! Life! It decided to throw an unexpected curveball. I can’t talk specifics, but all good thoughts/ intentions/ prayers/ lighting of candles/ dancing naked under the full moon (whatever it is you do) and such would be greatly appreciated.

You, however, get a bonus out of all of this messy stuff going on over here. An extra week to spread the word and donate!

Some of you know that the Guthy Jackson Charitable Foundation has a patient day for us every year. Starting the weekend before, they have all of the doctors and scientists and great minds from all over the world get together and share their knowledge with each other. That’s one of the premises of receiving money from the Foundation is that they HAVE to share with each other what they’ve learned. Kind of an awesome research model. I wonder what would happen if more research was done this way.

Anyway, the docs and scientists are doing that this weekend and patient day is next week, so…. I won’t be able to get information out of anyone until that’s all said and done. Unless I possibly badger and abuse the awesome staff while I’m at patient day. I actually don’t know if I have it in me to do that.

Prizes are in a post somewhere down below and you now have until November 8th to donate.

How do you get a chance to win?

Click here to go to the Guthy Jackson donation page, choose “Memorial Donation” and put Stacey Pope in the “purpose” section.  For every $10 you donate, you’ll get one entry. If you share this contest on Facebook, Twitter or wherever (and let me know), you’ll get another entry.

Deadline to enter is November 1, 2013 November 8 (12 noon Texas time) and I’ll be announcing the winners on November 2, 2013. November 9th

Spread the word! Donate what you can. Win some awesome yarn.

I still can’t pronounce it right

I just returned from 3 days in Dallas, (that felt more like a week) after attending the Rare Neuro-Immunologic Disorders Symposium.  It centered on repair and recovery and most of all, hope.  At the end of this post, you can find the information on how to donate to people with one of these disorders and get a chance to win some prizes.

Friday night, Texas and I had a lovely dinner and spent some time shopping in the big city. Saturday, we ended up attending The Halloween Block Party in Dallas. It was either that or get a contact high from our neighbors at the hotel. Anywho, despite the rain, it was so much fun. I can’t decide which pictures to post.

I’m only about 9 days out from attending patient day in Los Angeles and I might have to spend that time recovering from all the things.  Well, and finishing a couple of knitting projects.

If you haven’t been here before, this is why I started fundraising every year. Collin was a wonderful little boy who passed away a little over a year ago from NMO.

Donate and win!

As many of you know, raising money to find a cure for Neuromyelitis optica is near and dear to my heart because I suffer from NMO. (I might even be in that video up there)

What is it, you ask?

NMO stands for neuromyelitis optica, originally known as Devic’s Disease. NMO is an incurable autoimmune disorder. The body’s immune system attacks its own healthy cells, most commonly in the optic nerves and spinal cord. It can cause temporary or permanent blindness and/or paralysis, and may have periods of remission and relapse.

Happy Sunday y’all!

p.s. There is a rumor that I may be getting the dye pot out and adding some Merino/Cashmere yarn to the prizes in the coming week.

Who put this blog in the middle of my day?

No, seriously. What is this thing?

Apparently, people also comment and those things go to my e-mail. Who knew?

I have been able to wear hand knits! My favorite sock head (not knit by me) and my favorite scarf has gotten quite a bit of use with the cold front (a real one) that just moved in. Part of me is ready to pull the a/c units and enjoy it. However, this is Texas. I’m assuming we’ll get a couple of hot days in the coming weeks.

Get ready for the whole NMO fundraising thing. I was trying to get it going by this past Monday, but it turns out I have things in my head. Kind of ironic that NMO acting up is holding back a fundraiser for NMO.

I will tell you that Maureen has agreed to donate a couple of patterns and a pair of handknit socks.  The prototype for a new pattern even.

In the meantime, why not go check out all of the wonderful patterns and buy one or two.

Happy whatever day it is y’all!
