But, just because I loves you all and I am The Squish… here is the haul:

Varied and maybe  a little schizophrenic.  Everything from knitting to spinning to embroidery to punchneedle to rug hooking.

Some of the highlights were:

Chakra

When I get back home and rested and have gathered my thoughts, I’ll have a better post.  Pinky swear.  (maybe)

Which creature of the night are you?

Your Result: Demon

Which creature of the night are you?
Quiz Created on GoToQuiz

I mean really.
Since my package is being held hostage by the post office, I still have nothing to post about.  Cookie suggested that I take pictures of Van.  I have to get a little creative here since I could stand at the 4 way stop and show it all in 2 pictures.

Instead I’m going to start with my LYS – because I may have been there yesterday.  It is not actually in Van, but in Lindale.  A cute little town of about the same population as Van… but with more stores.  Like W*lmart and Lowe’s, Crackerbarrel and a YARN STORE!!!

There’s far more than that, but do you really need me to list everything?  I think it has so much because when you get off the freeway, turning right takes you to Tyler and left to Lindale.  They also are the home of Miranda Lambert… and BOY do they play that up. A lot.

But you’re not here for that… you want to see the yarn don’t you? This is Rose Path Weaving:

Texas 001

It’s in The Identity Center which also includes my coffee shop, a gym, a health food store, a butcher (who processes deer… yum) and a couple of real estate places.

Texas 003

The lovely Erin (yes, she is blogless, yes I am working on that) standing in front of the sock yarn and books.  There is a little chaise lounge sitting to the left, right in front of the window so I can sit and ponder projects for hours.  Erin is wonderfully nice and kind and has that a little bit of snark in her that makes her likable.  Because you all know how I love me some snark.  She is definitely not a typical East Texan… which makes me like her even more.

Texas 004

There is Michelle sitting at the in front of the needle wall.  On the other side of that yarn behind her is the sock yarn.  To the left is where the wools and alpaca and stuff like that is kept.  Along with a beautiful Kromski wheel on display.  Behind where I’m standing is the weaving yarn trees and spinning fiber.  To the left of the picture is where the cottons and sale bins are.  Oh and the sublime yarns.  Yum! Have you touched them yet? (I know… big FAIL for not taking enough pictures)  Sadly, the owner Regina and her little pup weren’t in yesterday.

Texas 007

Here is the tiny little inkle loom that Erin showed me the principles of the inkle loom on.  Isn’t it the most twee little thing?

Texas 005

Yep, that’s mine.  All warped and ready to go.  Like I said, Erin is the nicest person ever and tied all the strings that make the heddle and then patiently answered my questions and helped actually warped it for me while I sat there insulting her.  I know.  I have such a charming personality.

I’m not letting myself play with it until I get my project done on my rigid heddle.  I swear.  Maybe.  I may even show you the yarn I bought tomorrow.

Happy Sunday y’all!

Nothing says lovin’ like…

Shepherd’s pie in the oven? That’s what is on tap for dinner tonight. It has to turn out better than the under roasted chicken and too salty bread stuffing I tried last night.

Dinner fail! My first one for Texas. Oh well. It had to happen sometime… right?

Since it was posted late yesterday, here’s some Manic Monday for you:

  • Do you believe people are basically good? I’d love to say yes, but no. I don’t believe so.
  • If you could change the custom of shaking hands, what would you replace it with? High fives? Chest bumps? I don’t know. What’s wrong with shaking hands… well, except for all the germs exchanged?
  • What is something that you enjoy that is a chore for most other people? Cleaning and organizing. When I get stressed… I just have to do it.

I’m off to try to find some welding rods again. The two big box stores didn’t have them, but the little hardware store in town says they do. If not, it’s off to the welding supply shop.

I’m also going to be busy at clearing room to warp my loom. I NEED to produce. Really.

Don’t even ask about how PT went and little Oliver Twist me asking if I could please have some more. Be careful what you ask for? At least the mini-pity party had me grow some cojones and let them know what I want to do with my arm.

Happy Tuesday y’all!

Eye Candy Friday – New Yarn Edition

Trixie smile etsy logoPssst… have you heard? Oma La has taken the plunge and is opening her yarn store today at 08:08! Laura says about her yarn:

My sock yarn is a light-fingering 2-ply 100% superwash merino. Each unique colorway has been named after the gorgeous blonde who was my inspiration. In addition, I will be offering some limited-edition colorways as well as the occasional one-offs as I perfect my technique.

You can find it at her Etsy store and close ups are available on her website. Go, now… but save some for me, mmmkay?

If you remember, when I was in Bakersfield, I spoke of buying some yarn. Yarn I never shared with you. Well, here it is:

yearn 007 yearn 008

On the left is Kraemer Yarns Fountain Hill Brushed Mohair in Taffy Pull and on the right is Karabella Chameleon in 3218.

Yes, the Kraemer has sparkle in it. O.o

Me. Owning sparkly yarn. I think I’m going to claim temporary insanity due to too much squishy.

The reason I’m finally sharing? Because I have an FO.

Woven Scarf
Start: 1 Aug 08
Finish: 7 Aug 08
Yarn: Karabella Chameleon, 70% Extrafine Merino Wool, 20% Silk, 10% Cashmere -2 balls

The yarn is like butter. I had purchased two balls with the intention of weaving one and knitting a pair of matching fingerless mitts. Yes, I did the math and warped the loom appropriately. I did not however take into account the stretch in the yarn. The weft ended up using about a ball and a half.

/sigh

Yeah, I’m kind of disappointed. I’ll have to see if I can find this yarn and get another ball or two to get those mitts I want.

As you know, I’m not really a fringe type of girl, so for the finishing, I tried something new.

fo 001

I don’t remember which blog I saw this on, but I liked it. You knot the ends and then weave it back into the project. I like the picot-like look of it.

Yes, that is my first House Arrest F.O. The Alpine scarf is not doing so well. It may have been frogged.

Why?

Apparently, the pain doc is attempting to put me into a coma. Some meds were changed the other day and I took them as I was suppossed to. I think I spent a couple of hours just sitting there drooling. That does not make for good knitting. Yes, the pills worked, I had no pain. No pain at all.

We’re not doing that again.

Happy Friday y’all!

p.s. Day 34 sucks. Just sayin’

Happy Mother’s Day!

sunday shawl 006

I’ll be treating mine to a JetHawks game (and then dinner). Since I was invited by one of the guys on the team.

Don’t ask.

I’m not quite sure what happened either.

But I’ll have good seats.

The CoG* had something to do with it I’m sure. I think Cookie would agree. I guess when someone said there was something about me… he was right.

sunday shawl 004

Ala the voice of sanity, I may be ripping my Icarus. I think I need to go up a needle size or two. I’m using a 6, but the solid part just seems too solid. Did that make sense?

Dinner was nice. He brought over everything and grilled salmon and veggies. Yum. He brought a movie too – The Kingdom. (LOVED IT! And this was the second time I’ve seen it.) He even filled my grill tank.

Erm. That sounded kind of dirty. :D

>^;^< MEOW >^;^< Or whatever sound a cougar makes.

p.s. My comments aren’t coming through right… but I’m checking on you guys!

OWW – Well that didn’t work*

  loom 005

New reed (10 epi) and some sock yarn warp.  I purchased this colorway and a coordinating solid and then, I saw it knit up.  For some reason it just wasn’t working for me.  Pretty, just not my style of sock.  But weaving it?   It’s coming out quite nice.  Thanks to Angie’s funny math, I was able to use all but a smidge to warp and hopefully I’ll have enough for the weft.  It may be a wrap or I may take the fabric and make a bag.  The yarn is soft and is weaving up nicely.

loom-007.JPG

This could not have arrived at a better time.  I curled up under the covers and dug into the book right away.  Thank you Janet!  It also made me long for some of my favorite childhood books.  The Little House on the Prairie series, Baum’s Oz books (yes, there is more than just the Wizard), anything by Shel Silverstein, Charlotte’s Web and The Secret Garden.  What’s your favorite childhood book?

*Since I’m still in “icky” mode and I have a mid-term, I was going to do One Word Wednesday.  Then I sat down and my strange need to babble took over.  Perhaps it’s avoidance of actually taking the mid-term.  I do have until noon tomorrow.

Sunday Socks – My Cheatin’ Heart

Busy… and I mean busy weekend. So, until I have some uninterrupted time and can warp the loom, you have to suffer with knitting content. Whee!!

sun sock 001

One sock done and the other languishing because I’m having fun trying two socks at once. Who knew toe-ups could be so much fun? Plus, for some reason I’m finding comfort during this craziness with wool. The bamboo and cotton projects? Not so much. The wool… just right. I ended up casting on last night for a project that was bought during the FPSS just because.    O.k., just because someone pointed me in the direction of a rigid heddle loom thing and I needed something I could knit and read with.  At least it’s safer than a yarn site?  Can I just say it’s also that person’s fault that I changed my layout?  Something about acid trips and ladybugs.  :D
