I’ve got a weird hankering

For doing weird things.

I finally finished my first Inkle strap. Considering I started it on December 14, 2008, I don’t think it is too bad. I can definitely see places where I worked on it diligently and had evened everything out. Then there are the wonky, wobbly parts. So yeah, no close ups.

Now to decide if I want to load that up again, or maybe my rigid heddle, or maybe I should spin for the Tour. Who wants to bet I do none of those?

Yesterday and today are all about the resting. This heat and humidity do things to the things in my head. I’m hoping these storms come through and cool things off. You know, since the pool is still closed. (supposedly it is going to be re-inspected today) I haven’t even done jiu jitsu in two days. Well, except for some drills in my nice, cold living room. Does it count if I don’t get bruised and don’t sweat all that much?

Spinning would count as exercise, right?

Happy Thursday y’all!

There was snowboarding!

Not by me of course. I fell in love with all the snowboarding stuff during the Olympics. I had no idea either. I will probably now become an X-Games watcher. Y’all might want to start planning that intervention now.

Happy Tuesday y’all!

I think I was hit by a bus*

SoS ’13 is winding down. YEAH!!! I am one repeat and some ribbing from finishing one pair, have one footie completed and I finished the pair I started during SoS ’12.  Not bad for the arm. (Which I am going to address with a doctor, after much gnashing, wailing and denial)

With that done, (and eating up 3 months of the year) we needed a plan. So for the September portion of Cookie Made Me Do It, after much** discussion, we’re veering down a different kind of fiber path. Needlework.

Needlework is a broad term for the handicrafts of decorative sewing and textile arts. Anything that uses a needle for construction can be called needlework. The definition may expand to include related textile crafts such as a crochet hook, or tatting shuttles.

Since the definition of it is pretty broad, all y’all can play along. You! Yes! I am talking to you.

Embroidery, cross stitch, knitting, crocheting, and I think even weavettes should count since you use a needle to weave. Right?!?  And if we’re going down that road, since a crochet hook counts, couldn’t we technically say an orifice hook and some wool counts too?

In other news, I really need to stop watching Monsters Inside Me. Or I need to make other people watch it with me. (They’re showing 5 or 6 in a row today) It’s interesting and informative, but DUDE!  People who may have certain tendencies for cleanliness probably shouldn’t watch it.

* It’s either the infusion, or someone actually did throw me under the bus somewhere. Just sayin’

**If by much, I mean one blog comment and an e-mail or two. Oh, and not actually asking Cookie this time since she’s busy and tired over there.

The crazy train has left the station.

If she tells you something, you may as well listen to her. She is usually right.

That poorly lit picture is one ball of crocheted chain. To give myself credit, I finished one. The thought of making 9 more made me want to give myself a lobotomy with the crochet hook.

Sooooo, I’ve done nothing since.  Not a stitch on anything. If I use the giant needles, there is still hope to get something else done for Mega May.

However, Summer of Socks is here! That is going to be the bulk of my CMMDI for the WHOLE summer. I like that there is no competition this year. It reminds me when it started and it was just a bunch of bloggers connecting through knitting socks together. I love relaxed, no pressure things.

We’re also going to blame her for any spinning done during the Tour de Fleece. If you do that kind of thing.

I chipped a tooth last night. On a piece of bacon.

Yeah. Think about that.

It was thick and over cooked (most likely reheated in the microwave). Actually, it was more like broke the filling and a little piece of tooth. Also, it is a tooth I had filled more than 20 years ago.  (am I really old enough to say 20 years ago?)

Someone offered to hold a prayer circle and perhaps sing Kumbaya.  *snort*

That is when I actually go to the dentist. I called 9 places today and they were either closed or closing early and couldn’t fit me in. Small towns and holiday weekends.

Here is something to think about for later in the summer/ early fall. I’ve been playing with my looms a bit  and we may need to blame her for some type of weave along. That is if I can pressure Angie (and anyone else who has one to play with).  I’m using the term loom loosely. Rigid heddle, inkle, weavette, knitting, loop, or just a piece of cardboard.

Today, I’m going to indulge myself with a Real Housewives of New Jersey marathon.  It makes my life feel much less crazy. Hopefully, I’ll pick up some sticks and string and have something to show for it by Monday.

What are you doing this weekend?

Happy weekend y’all!

Squash Blossoms!

Sorry Cookie, Texas checked and I am most definitely not growing any blossoms.

This is squash blossoms. It is currently hanging out on the triangle loom. (I know I said cantaloupe on FB, but it just cried out to be squash blossoms when I started playing with it). You don’t get pictures because I fear that may be the kiss of death for it.

Unless it rains.

Please let it rain.

I’ve even asked Texas to pull on his Native American heritage and do a little dance for me. He started singing this:

Smart a$$.

Happy whatever day this is y’all!

Well, look at that!

Yeah, I don’t know where that came from either. I technically finished the knitting last month, but put off sewing in the ends until yesterday 2 days ago. The only downside of the project was the yarn. As we say around the Love Shack, “it sure is pretty”.* I mean, you all know Noro and it’s tendency to just fall apart, so I had a lot of ends to do.

Pattern: Schaaaarug – made it up
Yarn: Noro Furisode

In other news, um… I have no other news. Unless you count planning paddocks for the fields. That isn’t even exciting for me.

Happy Friday y’all! Have a great weekend.  I’m off to weave because all my knitting has too many stitches.

* As in “that sure is a pretty truck, but it can’t haul worth a damn” or “that sure is a pretty lawn mower, would be nice if it actually worked”

Angie Day 5

Overwhelmed, exhausted, well fed and well stashed.  It’s been amazing and I’m not ready to summarize yet.

But, just because I loves you all and I am The Squish… here is the haul:

Varied and maybe  a little schizophrenic.  Everything from knitting to spinning to embroidery to punchneedle to rug hooking.

~   ~   ~   ~   ~

Some of the highlights were:

a chakra charka (happy Carrie? I’m tired, stop picking on  me)

alpaca knit scarf with embroidery

a trindle

silk cocoons

When I get back home and rested and have gathered my thoughts, I’ll have a better post.  Pinky swear.  (maybe)

Happy Sheboygan Sunday y’all!
